A Little About Myself

Like most artists, I felt it in me from the beginning. Peter Paul Rubens was an early inspiration. At age 10, I painted a giant 14’X7’ reproduction of Rubens’ “Battle of the Amazons” for our family rec room. Then, forty years later, I found myself surrounded by some of Rubens’ most famous original work, his Medici series, in the Musée du Louvre in Paris (pictured above).

I never even thought about painting as a career. That would have taken the fun out of it and made it a labor of livelihood, rather than a labor of love. My career was retail buying and store management, until recent retirement. Painting is a passion, maybe even better said, my life’s pleasure. I spend about four hours a day in my studio (converted from a storage room) at home in San Francisco. The rest of the day is occupied by other passions/pleasures: working out at the gym, cooking Asian and Italian foods, and enjoying the company of friends. While I love life in San Francisco and Chicago, I relish international travel and pack the suitcase once or twice a year for far away places, often places with major art museums.
